Who Will Replace Dubose?

…… The Commissioner that represents the majority – black part of Fort Lauderdale on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission has been elected to the Florida House of Representatives, and his temporary replacement will be chosen in a few weeks.

dubose

…..  Bobby Dubose is leaving

….. It will only be a temporary appointment, as a permanent Commissioner will be elected next March, during the regularly scheduled elections.

The four temporaries in the running are –

barbarahoustonwilson

Barbara Houston Wilson-  a long time area educator that has run for the Broward School Board multiple times – that picture is from those races ( City races are non-partisan) .

……………………………………………………

John H. Hill III, ( no picture available) is part of a family dynasty of business pioneers in NW Fort Lauderdale.  There is a monument to the Hill family on NW 7thAvenue, due to the family’s philanthropic actions.

Oddly, Hill’s mother was once acquitted of killing her husband, ” by reason of insanity”.

……………………………………………………..

McKinzie

Robert L. McKinzie Jr., who ran strong, though unsuccessfully for a County Commission seat, is the only one of the four that has announced that he will be running for the permanent Commission seat. Some on the Commission are reticent to choose a candidate for the permanent seat as the temp. The thinking is that it would give the temp an unfair advantage in the March election. I agree!

sammorrison

Samuel F. Morrison, (my choice) is a long – time respected community activist, and is best known as the former administrator of the Broward County Library system.

……  We should know the outcome October 21st.

  1. Doesn’t the candidate have to be a resident of Fort Lauderdale? McKinzie is homesteaded in Plantation with his doctor wife, or doesn’t homestead matter?

  2. morrison has a homesteaded propery in fll – is it in district 3? who knows?
mckenzie has 4 properties but homesteads in plantation -nothing wrong with that but shouldn’t he live in the district?
not important as plenty of dubose appointees to key city boards neither live or work in city let alone his district 3.
Several Barbara Wilson’s with homestead and not all inf ort ldle

    c’mon Tim do some digging

  3. The three three three one one posse are gushing with hubris as they announce that McKinzie has been selected to serve.
McKinzie does not live in a 950sf two bedroom house in Fort Lauderdale unless his wife has kicked him out. He lives in the 3500 sf five bedroom house in Plantation. The house where he claims his Homestead Exemption for this year.

  4. So Sad when a relationship with the voters starts with a lie and even sadder, if it is perpetuated on the public
    by their elected officials.

Samuel F. Morrison is the man I would back if he lives in District 3?

  5. So McKinzie is slumming it in NW FtL? Doubt it. He has a fancy house, a fancy wife, and four fancy kids. Like they’re gonna leave the golf course community to all live in a 2 bedroom house in the hood?
Another carpetbagger, hand picked to feed at the trough.

  6. Many excellent Library employees left when Morrison was in charge. Also, ask officials and residents in Hollywood about how Morrison failed when he was in charge of raising funds for their Artspark. He left them all holding the bag. Do your homework, Commissioners!

  7. less than 1000 voted in 2009 dist 3
unabashed apathy so whever is hand picked matters little
if an imposter resident wants to pretend to live in dist 3 and everyone goes along, who cares
