Do The Community Police Forum

…. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is  returning to Community Policing …… (I’ll take an amen to that!)

………….but they need you, the community,  to join them –

….  I’m going to sign up for this forum, and I hope you will too ……

….  The Forum will take place on 6 consecutive Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 until 9:30 pm, from Oct. 15 to Nov. 19 …. It looks to be interesting, with topics covering all things Police!  And the Police are coming into the community for these series of forums, so no need to hassle going downtown to the Police Department.

….. Now we’ve come along way baby – Here is a picture of our Police Dept. at work back in the 60’s –

…… Thankfully, our police racial issues seem to be solved, with an integrated department, where nearly all the top brass are black. (Chief Adderley is Bahamian, but I think he still qualifies 🙂

…. To understand how far we’ve come, in 1994, amazingly, Fort Lauderdale had the highest crime rate  in the whole United States ( last year it was East St. Louis), and now Fort Lauderdale no longer even makes the worst 100 list.

….. Even those stubborn crime areas like South Middle River, and Lauderdale Manors, are seeing steep drops in their crime rate.

…..  But we still have way too much crime, and the FLPD, led by Chief Frank Adderley, is working it, but says we all need to climb aboard to help!!

  1. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department can’t do it alone, and they need more involvement. You would think a high neighborhood crime rate would be incentive for ALL of the neighbors that live there to become involved. Every resident on their street knows who lives there, or should, and should be able to recognize what is suspicious and CALL THE POLICE when they see something. Don’t watch crime, report it! I hope that there’s a large turn out for The Community Police Forum every week for the six weeks that it will be held.

  2. There is a lot of information and studies on what works in policing.
It is good for the police to meet the people they serve.
At the end of the day, these are public venting sessions which serve a purpose.
To have real sustainable results change must be implemented based on the wealth of information
that has been gathered from all around the country.
